This is an ongoing series of ceramic pieces born from a visual study of connections and distances. I think of each composition as a collage, where I play with cuts of stained clay, underglazes and glazes to create stories. Each one is unique and unrepeatable, and they talk about my perceptions as an immigrant. The difficulties I encountered, my wish to bond with the new and honour the past. I feel like we're islands floating around and trying to stay connected by a string. Some unions are stronger than others. That's why I strengthen the weak ones with paint and glazes.

This series comes from the necessity to create objects that bring some of my origins to my present. The literal separation between myself and my possessions, my friends and family, my known places came to manifest in these vessels. Like a ritual, like a grounding object that reminds me of where I come from, where I am and where I am going.
